Showering With Friends
by Yvonne Seng for Digital Living Today

Is your shower a miserable tiled cubicle you waddle into each morning or is it your personal play space? Whether you treat showering as an Olympic water sport or a daily nuisance, showering with a digital friend can add a few fun wrinkles to your day.

Sharper Image Design's new waterproof CD player will let you bid farewell to the shock-jock that your current bathroom radio seems to think is the only thing on the airwaves at 7am. The CD Shower Companion ($189.95 at The Sharper Image) does everything except scrub your back: it comes with stereo dual speakers and is guaranteed not to sing off key. A tight, water-resistant compartment keeps your discs dry while the LCD screen lets you keep track of 12/24 time (in two zones). Okay, for you talk radioheads, it also has a digital AM/FM tuner, plus broadcast TV audio. When you hit the kitchen, this cool companion converts to a tabletop model with alarms. Runs on 4 C batteries with AC adapter for dry use.

If you prefer to wake up smelling like roses, you can turn your shower into a private spa. The Amrita Nebulizer Diffuser ($55 ) is a smart piece of aromatherapy tech that coaxes your senses into the harsh light of another workday. The Nebulizer diffuses essential oils (like lavender, lime, you name it) by ionizing and suspending fine oil molecules on a current of air. Personally, nothing will replace the smell of strong fresh-brewed Java, but this might get the decaf crowd off on the right foot.

Now you no longer have to run dripping to answer the boss's early morning phone calls. With Panasonic's Water-resistant Cordless Phone ($139.95 at Amazon), you can turn your shower into an extension of your new home office. Sturdy, shock resistant construction and rubberized trim protect this 2.4GHz GigaRange extreme phone against accidental splashes encountered in both indoor and outdoor use. The optional headset leaves your hands free for soaping up or taking notes by the pool.

Finally, for a little fun, turn your shower into a personal photo booth. With Fujifilm's QuickSnap Waterproof 35mm One-Time Use Camera ($16.95 at Globe-Mart), you can let the extrovert (or exhibitionist) in you out. Designed to shoot under water or for active water sports, this slick shooter comes loaded with high speed film (Fujicolor Superia 800) guaranteed to catch the action as you scrub along to your favorite tunes and the Nebulizer aroma-sizes the ol' bod. Why not snap a few pics, scan and email them the next time one of your friends sends you those irritating digital photos of them kicking back in some exotic locale while you slave away in the datamines.
