Ever seen a UFO and not had a camera handy to get the proof? Ever had a heavy smoker skulking around your apartment building and wanted to document his movements? Fox Mulder isn't the only one who has a need for quick, discreet photography, and Casio's new "wrist-type wearable digital camera" will capture the evidence to start your own X-Files (or maybe just nab a few shots of your peeps at the park).
With a click of any button while in record mode, Casios digital Wrist Camera WQV-1 ($199), due out in the fall, will take and store up to 100 pictures in the one megabyte onboard memory. While the pictures are not color or high quality, the roughly 160 x 160 pixel resolution in sixteen shades of gray is sharp - about the same resolution as a Palm V. The images can then be time and date stamped, which is particularly useful for documenting those Yeti sightings. Titles and other information can also be added, up to twenty-four characters.
The small LCD screen on the watch is used as a viewfinder while taking the pics, or to view pictures that you've already taken, just like on a regular digital camera. Since it may be hard to prove the conspiracy theories if you have to show everybody your watch, the pictures can be beamed via infrared to a palm- or desktop computer (with the optional connection kit), or to another watch. Once there, the pictures can be converted to standard JPG or BMP formats and posted on the Web or emailed to friends and non-believers. The truth is out there!
